About Aluminium Melting Scrap

Aluminium melting scrap is an actively traded category. The metal has displaced steel and other materials in vehicles, building applications, packaging, and electrical work, and the recycling industry handles steady flows. Aluminium can be recycled multiple times, and the energy required to produce a tonne of recycled aluminium is a fraction of that required for primary metal.

The trade moves cast scrap, wrought scrap, used beverage cans, automotive scrap, and a range of mixed and alloyed forms. As with other metals, the grading system uses short distinctive names from the ReMA specifications.

Principal Grades

The principal grades of aluminium melting scrap, as defined in the ReMA specifications:

Tablet

Clean aluminium can scrap, sorted and baled, from used beverage cans (UBC).

Talc

Clean mixed old alloy sheet aluminium — old siding, gutters, lithoplate, and similar.

Taint/Tabor

Clean mixed old alloy sheet aluminium. One of the most widely traded grades.

Taldon

Mixed old cast aluminium — old castings free of iron, brass, dirt, and corrosion.

Talon

Aluminium-copper radiators — automotive radiators with copper tubing and aluminium fins.

Tassel

Aluminium turnings — clean, dry, and free of iron, oil, and other contaminants.

Tata

Mixed low-copper aluminium clippings and solids.

Tense

Aluminium turnings — segregated by alloy.

Tepid

Wrought aluminium — clippings, extrusions, and similar.

Terse

New aluminium foil scrap — clean, dry, and uncoated.

Throb

Painted aluminium siding — for refinery feed.

Twang

New pure aluminium wire and cable.
